Girl is the nation’s pride as well the flower. But these are not the only values woman has. For many people, girl is just somebody to marry and parents get cows.
Nevertheless young rural Xhosa girl before 1994 has respect, dignity, ambitions and responsibility.
The precious girl
conducts herself in a dignified and humble manner, because she knows that everybody is watching her as she grows up. Before the age of the 18, or even 20, she is under strict supervision of her parents. Parents are careful and protective about their angel. They equip her with descent behaviours and other important values of life. The girl cannot sit with her legs ajar.
The girl is posses
respect at all times. She shows this when talking to her parents, elders as well as young ones. She does not talk back to elders but accept what they say. She does not addressing adults with their names, but use designated words such as “mama for her mother”, “bhuti for her brother”, “makazi for her aunt”, “somnci for her sister” and so on.
Chief
duties of any young woman are cooking, cleaning and sometimes fetch water from the river. These are the basics that she is given by her mother or elders such as sisters and aunts. Besides performing the above mentioned duties, she has also to her schoolwork. This is the utmost duty which has its prospects in store for her.
Of course everybody has to play certain
games in order to relax. There is a say that work and no play makes stupid one. But unfortunately for her (the girl) she is limited to certain games. There are no proper games for her to participate. The games the she plays are Qgaphu, Jingxi and tompayo.
Rural girls are decent speices in the villages. They play vast role in their community, example when there is ritual in the village, they are asked to assist with major duties such as fetching water and woods. However the future of this young girl is high priority in their parents. In the coming new government she stands great chances and have possible prospect.
